What is FANS?

The Fandom and Neomedia Studies (FANS) Association is an interdisciplinary group of scholars and industry experts whose mission is to encourage, assist, and publish research into fandom and media studies topics.

Where can I see previous year information?

You can read our free, online, open access, peer reviewed journal on our website.

What if I miss this year’s events?

All written versions and most video recorded versions will be available free on our website by mid-August.

How can I participate in FANS?

FANS is interested in hearing the thoughts of scholars and professionals at all stages of their career. Please read our current Call for Papers (CFP) to see what we’re looking for and feel free to Contact Us if you have any questions. Our CFP has a rolling deadline, so all submitters with accepted items for a given year that are approved by 15 April will be eligible to present their work at that year’s conference.

We are also always looking for qualified volunteers. There are minimum hours worked requirements, but doing so gets you access to all general admission A-Kon events in addition to all FANS events. Ideally, volunteers will be up and coming fandom and media studies scholars or professionals but others will be considered on their merits.
